In 2009, Lund University received strategic research funding of SEK 715 million from the Swedish Government in order to lead and develop world-leading research in nine different areas. The prevalence of various respiratory diseases are increasing in Scandinavia and also in other parts of the world. In this study, an extensive questionnaire on issues related to respiratory diseases, was sent out to residents in the municipality of Malmö and the surrounding area. Objective: To assess relationships between sleep and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) with diet in a population-based cohort (EpiHealth). Methods: In total, 24,944 individuals (45-75 years, 43.8% men) answered a questionnaire on sleep, OSAS, diet (adherence to Mediterranean diet (mMEDscore; range 0-8; highest quartile=adherence)), health, and demographical data.
